Welcome to the future of healthcare!
AnonyComm provides anonymous communication between patients and physicians to initiate patient engagement, improve quality of care, and ultimately reduce healthcare costs. Our innovative communication technology aims to bridge a gap between members of marginalized community and medical health professionals.
What is the targeted population?
Studies have indicate that high cost patients -- "super-utilizers" of healthcare system -- often face complex challenges related to socioeconomic marginalization, exposure to violence or trauma, cognitive and mental health, substance use have lower engagement and fluctuating trajectories of engagement. Furthermore, in the providers’ view, marginalized patients had sufficient warrant to distrust the health care system due to histories of exclusion and poor treatment (Fleming, 2017). While AnonyComm may benefit all patients, we believe our platform will be of greatest assistance to super-utilizers and marginalized communities.
Why target patient engagement?
Patient engagement is an increasingly important component of strategies to reform health care. There is a growing body of evidence showing that patients who are more activated have better health outcomes and care experiences. In addition, the study indicates that policies and interventions aimed at strengthening patients’ role in managing their health care can contribute to improved outcomes (Hibbard & Greene, 2013).
Why online and anonymous communication?
An emerging consensus supports online communication between patients and physicians in an existing relationship to improve the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of medical care. Patients are also seeking medical care online from physicians they have never met, ranging from one-time interactions for a second opinion to psychotherapy (Miller & Derse, 2002).
An insightful article by Spielberg suggests that patients may turn to the Net because there is something inherent in traditional office-based medical practice that leaves them "wanting more." Borowitz and Wyatt show that some families that used the authors' e-mail patient "consultation" service found their electronic contacts with anonymous medical experts less intimidating than some in-person conversations with their own physicians (Ferguson, 1998). AnonyComm aims to improve patient engagement for all, especially for super-utilizers and individuals from marginalized communities who may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed while communicating with physicians. In order to promote in-person check-ups and medical evaluations, we firmly believe AnonyComm initiates patient engagement and builds trust between patient and provider.
How does AnonyComm reduce healthcare costs?
The figures below indicate the alarming projected growth of U.S. National Health Expenditures as a Share of GDP (left) as well as the tremendous amount of money to treat patients with one or more chronic diseases (right).

AnonyComm is designed to initiate patient engagement and therefore improve the quality of care and better healthcare outcomes based on the numerous studies above. A majority of healthcare costs are the result of managing one or more chronic diseases; in fact, six out of the top 10 leading causes of death were from chronic diseases in 2011. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the best way to deal with chronic disease is through prevention. Most chronic conditions are preventable through healthy eating and living (Askin & Moore, 2012).
Our platform contributes to the solution by investing in early prevention and disease management rather than managing such diseases at a late progression when the costs are astronomically higher and outcome are far worse (Nichols et al., 2011). By providing a means of anonymous communication between patient and provider, AnonyComm empowers individuals to reach out for medical check-ups and preventative care, especially for super-utilizers and the marginalized communities.
